Fun fact, Nanaimo Bars were not invented here, but instead became a popular treat when Nanaimo's primary industry was coal mining. They were sent in care packages sent from England because they travelled well.
Nonetheless, Nanaimo is the chocolate covered custard dessert capital of the world.

Currently impossible due to COVID-19 restrictions, there are active efforts to introduce a dog therapy program at NRGH, with the option of eligible patients having a moment of canine distraction to help allieviate the stress of the ED.
